Xi 'an, known as Chang 'an in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Shaanxi Province. It is the capital of Shaanxi Province, an important central city in the western part of China, and an important national scientific research, education and industrial base approved by the State Council. By the end of 2022, the city had 11 districts and 2 counties, with a total area of 10,752 square kilometers (including Xixian New Area) and a permanent population of 12,995,900. Xi 'an is a "world famous historical city" determined by UNESCO in 1981.
